Inspired United beat Kudus

Kudus suffered their fifth defeat of the Rugby Premier League this season. The team lost 29-17 against Trustco United at Kudus Park.

Kudus scored two tries by Daniel Jeneke and scrum-half Cameron Stevens.
Aurelio Plato was unsuccessful to convert the two tries, but could bag the points of three successful penalty kicks.
United scored four tries. Two by wing Felix Humphries and one each by fly-half Hanreco van Zyl and centre Michael Hummel. Lock Winmar Rust was successful in converting three of the tries and also bagged the points with three penalty kicks.
United enjoyed great ball retention in the second half and dominated in the scrums. Kudus to the opposite was plagued by unforced errors.
A total of 33 penalties were handed down by the referee. Of those a total of 17 were against Kudus. Kudus coach Romeo Rieth expressed concerns over the low turnout of players for practice. That resulted among others in no depth of players on the bench. The team did not play any games for three weeks and he attributed that to the low turnout at practices.
Kudus’ next game is against Unam in Windhoek. The coach urged players to prepare and work hard for this upcoming game.
Coach Robbie Dickson had reasons to smile. His Trustco United remains top of the log and stays ahead with several points.
Dickson was not happy all the way though. “I don’t think it was the best first half. Players struggled to get out of the starting blocks with the game. They were lazy on the defense and made poor decisions. We missed eleven points, but the second half was a comeback we much welcomed. The forwards overwhelmed Kudus and we could keep up the momentum.
Dickson admitted it is very difficult to play Kudus at Narraville, as home ground always pose that extra advantage. It was United’s first win at Kudus Park since 2014.
Dickson added there are some challenges lying ahead for Trustco United. Firstly there is the injuries and secondly players who have been selected for Uruguay and for the Welwitschias. The second team of Kudus beat United II 25-29 in the NRU Reserve League that was also played at Kudu Park.
