ROSSMUND GC 10 vs WALVIS BAY GC 0

Saturday 8 September
The weather conditions were greatly improved giving the players some nice sunshine for the first part of the competition – wind conditions however increased as the day wore on.
It was great to have Hoffie in the driving seat again from Business Connexions with his annual Mixed Betterball Stableford Competition which incorporated the coastal derby against Walvis Bay GC. A total of ten teams from each club took up the challenge. The day delivered 4 x 2-clubs from G Breedt; W van Zyl; A van Schalkwyk and T Shitaleni.
Walvis Bay GC almost managed a clean sweep on the short holes with Nearest to the Pin Prizes going to A Macquard No3; E Rentske No 7; P Fox No.12; K Wentzel No.16. Unfortunately the luck did not hold out as the home side used all their local knowledge to deliver a resounding blow against the visitors to win the challenge 10 games to 0. Winners: 1st: M Ludeke/G Breedt 70pts; 2nd: A Bonifatius/J Shikulo 63pts c/o; 3rd: H Ndjendja/T Shitaleni 63pts (c/o; 4th: S Johns/G Murasiki 62pts; 5th: M Swarts/T Haimbondi 61. Watch this space I am sure the losers will be looking for a rematch very shortly. Well played to all and a great word of thanks to Hoffie for his continued support of golf at Rossmund.

Despite the ice cold windy conditions yesterday we had a good field of golfers out on the fairways – some enjoying the wind assisted shots and some not 🙂 – the day was sponsored by Chris Durant and Tyre Corporation – he has told me that there will be a few changes coming up soon so watch this space.
The Nearest to the Pin prize on Number 7 has been held over until next month as the winner Peter Fox was absent from prize giving – oh my goodness. The Winners of the lekker red wine and biltong were – 18 holes: Warren Theron 39 pts; 2nd: Michael Ludeke 37pts c/o even though he shot an eagle on No.5; whilst Ockie Oosthuizen won the 9 hole prize winning a count out on 19 pts over the front nine. Well played to all.
Saturday 1 September saw Destination Swakopmund back in control with a Betterball Stableford – the day started overcast and cold – there were some new and old partnerships vying for the merit list points on offer. Scores were close and several count outs were needed to decide the winners. Thanks to Gerhard for his ongoing support and being there at prize-giving. It would appear that there were no 2-clubs however Clive Lawrence did win a “Lucky Draw”. Results: 1st: George & Steven 45 pts; 2nd: Achmet & Zelda 44pts c/o over Rina & Billy and Graham & Athol; 5th: Kevin & Willie 43pts.
