Erongo yielded 9000 new voters

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says of the 20 772 voter registrations recorded in Erongo during the supplementary voters registration process that closed on 27 June, just under half were new registrations (first time registrations). The rest were for duplicate voters cards (8 528) and change of regional address (3 090). The new registrations amounted to 9 151 people.

According to ECN’s Regional Coordinator for Erongo, Kashidinge Lukas Nghipuilepo, the Swakopmund constituency recorded the highest number of new applicants with 3 252, Walvis Bay Urban recorded 1 563, Walvis Bay Rural 1 207, Arandis 1 088, Karibib 865, Omaruru Constituency 623 and Daures Constituency 553.
Nghipuilepo explained: “During the supplementary registration, which took place between 8 and 27 June this year, a number of challenges were encountered.
Namibia goes to the polls on 27 November for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections. Seagoing Namibians will cast their votes on 13 November and so also Namibians living abroad.
